WildlifeDirect is a Kenya and US registered charitable organisation founded and chaired by African conservationist Richard Leakey, who is credited with putting an end to the elephant slaughter in Kenya in the 1980s.
They are the largest retail and wholesale dealers in East Africa dealing in sports, promotional items, educational, communication, entertainment, hiking, camping, fishing & other equipment like games, shoes, apparels, accessories, scientific equipment, indoor & outdoor playing equipment, electronic games, body building, physical exercise equipment, trophies etc., and export in and around the adjoining territories the sport goods and equipment, promotion goods, medals and trophies.
WildlifeDirect was established in 2006 to provide support to conservationists in Africa directly on the ground via the use of blogs, which enables anybody, anywhere to play a direct and interactive role in the survival of some of the world's most precious species. WildlifeDirect takes no administration fee for the funds that are transferred through their website so that the financial support can go to where it was intended in its entirety. Their core costs are provided for separately through grants, primarily from the European Union.
Education and Outreach
The Education and Outreach program educates and empowers children by bringing them to Kenya’s national parks and reserves and helping to create a generation of Wildlife Warriors in their own communities, addressing conservation and human-wildlife conflict issues.
The Community Development department was developed in October 2014 to create and enhance peaceful relationship between communities and wildlife. The goal of our community project is to create thriving communities by improving children’s performance in schools through conservation.
NTV Wild program is a television program that was started in partnership between WildlifeDirect, Kenya Wildlife Service and NTV Kenya. The program has two components, the NTV Wild Documentary series that airs award winning conservation films to Kenyans and NTV Wild Talk Show which provides a platform to discuss both soft and hard hitting matters on conservation.
Since 2013, WildlifeDirect pioneering research and monitoring program Eyes in the Courtroom has made a key contribution to efforts to strengthen wildlife law, and to improve prosecutions, courtroom procedures and sentencing in wildlife crime cases brought before Kenyan courts.
